Vanaf 26 mei zal op deze plek een weblog starten waarin actuele onderwerpen uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek in relatie tot brein, leren & educatie worden besproken.

At the end of 2002, the Dutch Science Council (NWO) in consultation with the ministry of Education, Culture and Science set up the Brain & Learning committee. The committee was to undertake initiatives to stimulate an active exchange between brain scientists, cognitive scientists and educational scientists and the practice of education. The initiative has led to two major activities which have been very influential. These activities will be discussed in the following webcomment.

In het afgelopen decennium is veel inzicht verworven in de ontwikkeling van de hersenen in relatie tot de zogenaamde ‘hoger-cognitieve functies’. Niet alleen is gebleken dat de hersenen veel langer doorrijpen dan tot nu toe gedacht, en wel tot na het twintigste jaar. Ook is duidelijk geworden dat er tussen kinderen forse verschillen bestaan in individuele ontwikkeling. De hersenen blijken te kunnen optreden als ‘afhankelijke variabele’. In deze lezing wordt ingegaan op zowel de biologische als omgevingsfactoren die belangrijk zijn voor de talentontwikkeling. In dit verband worden relevante inzichten uit neurowetenschap, alsmede cognitieve en biologische psychologie gepresenteerd.
