University and health care activities: Management and administration
Prof. Jolles is a full professor in Neuropsychology & Biological Psychology at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He was appointed in the Faculty of Medicine in 1985. Since January 1995 he was also appointed at the Faculty of Psychology as one of the founders of this Faculty, which had its formal start in September 1995. He has had a formal training in both chemistry (speciality ‘neurochemistry’) and in psychology (specialty ‘neuropsychology’) with a PhD in medicine on the domain of psychopharmacology. He is chairman of the division of Neuropsychology in the Faculty of Medicine, which is part of the department of Psychiatry & Neuropsychology. Likewise, he is chairman of the division of Biopsychology in the Faculty of Psychology (part of the department of Neurocognition).

With respect to health care, he is head of two hospital departments which are specialized in the care for patients with brain dysfunction and/or other medical conditions. First, the division of Neuropsychology in the university hospital Maastricht is part of the department of Psychiatry & Neuropsychology. It specializes in healthcare and research in ambulant patients with cognitive dysfunction or neuropsychiatric disease. Both children, adults and elderly are focus of the interventions. Second, the Academic Department of Neuropsychology of the Psychomedical Centre ‘Vijverdal’ (a general psychiatric hospital) has a specialty in cognitive dysfunction and behavioural disorders in psychiatric patients and in patients with acquired brain disorder.

The two organisational units in the university (division of Neuropsychology and division of Biopsychology) and the two associated health care departments form an integrated structure for the execution of research, education as well as health care on the field of Brain & Behaviour. The education involves both bachelor’s and master’s students, and professional training on the domain of health care psychology and neuropsychology. The total organisation involves 75 persons (academic staff, health care staff, and support personnel). There are 20 PhD students working on fundamental and applied issues in the domain of ‘Brain and Cognition in a developmental perspective’.
